Your car's thermostat is a key player in your cooling system. It is a small part tucked deep inside the motor, and it is responsible for controlling the flow of coolant from the engine to the radiator. As such, your thermostat needs to make careful measurements of coolant temperature, only allowing radiator fluid to flow to the radiator when it is hot enough.

The thermostat also has a lot to do with your interior heating system, and if you notice a loss of heat during cold months, the thermostat may be the culprit. 

Synthetic oil is commonly used during oil changes because of vehicle-specific recommendations.
