2020 BMW 3 Series vs 2019 BMW 3 Series

Serving Chattanooga, TN

Over the years, the BMW 3 Series has remained one of the most popular luxury sports sedans on the market. Many longtime BMW fans are excited by the latest generation. Its improved performance and a long list of premium features promise to leave you impressed. Let’s see how the 2020 BMW 3 Series compares to the 2019 BMW 3 Series.

Performance

The 3 Series returns for 2020 with the same standard powertrain. BMW’s 2.0-liter, TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine gives the 330i plenty of performance. It’s rated to crank out a competitive 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission pushes the power to the wheels. Unlike the 2019 BMW 3 Series, the 2020 BMW 3 Series offers an even more powerful M340i model. Motivation comes from a TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine, which cranks out 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Expect the M340i to offer, especially strong acceleration. Testers have clocked it with a scorching 0-60 mph time of 4.2 seconds. A specially tuned suspension aids handling.

Appearance

When doing a side-by-side comparison of the 2019 BMW 3 Series and the 2020 BMW 3 Series, don’t expect to notice any differences in styling. BMW’s signature twin-kidney grille helps give the 3 Series a familiar look. However, it’s sleeker and more aggressive than the previous generation. Despite the many similarities between these models, the 2020 M340i does have a more dynamic character. You’ll immediately notice its standard M Sport body kit and upgraded wheels. This same appearance package is available for the less powerful BMW 330i as an option. Some of the striking paint options include Sunset Orange Metallic, Portimao Blue Metallic, and Melbourne Red Metallic.

Features

Both of these models have a luxurious interior. Amenities, like tri-zone automatic climate control and power-adjustable seats, come standard. Some helpful accident-avoidance technologies are also conventional, including automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning. Every new 3 Series receives BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, which features an 8.8-inch touchscreen with a console-mounted controller. Some of the high-end options include a Wi-Fi hotspot, Traffic Jam Assist, and a premium Harman Kardon audio system.
