At BMW of Chattanooga, our valued customers often inquire about the differences between our top models. We are passionate about helping each customer select a new car or crossover SUV that lives up to their expectations. Now that you are preparing to buy a new crossover SUV, you understandably want to learn about the differences between the X1, the X3, and the X5. While they share a naming scheme, they are excitingly different from bumper to bumper. What should you know about these luxury crossovers?
Performance
The 2020 BMW X1 is a subcompact crossover SUV equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo I-4 gas engine. This engine produces 228 horsepower, and it is offered with your choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The X3 is a compact crossover SUV, and it is offered with two gas engines and a hybrid variant. Its turbo I-4 engine generates 248 horsepower. The alternative gas engine is a 382-horsepower, V6 design. If you opt for the 2020 BMW X5, you can choose between two engines. One of these is a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine that creates 335 horsepower. The other option is a twin-turbo V8, M Performance 4.4-liter engine that puts out 523 horsepower.
Appearance
The X1, X3, and X5 share many aspects of their design language, and they also have standout features. For example, all of these models have a kidney-style, two-part grille with vertical bars and deep contouring that cascades across the sides. The X1 is the smallest of the models. It has a sloped, defined hood with scalloped headlights that angle sharply backward. The X3 has a more prominent hood. It has the same headlight design as the X1, but these lights sit slightly more horizontally. In addition, the lower front fascia has a unique design. The X5 has a taller hood and grille. These are combined with a bold lower-front fascia to create a commanding first impression.
Features
As you might expect, all of these vehicles have some shared features at different trim levels. These include Apple CarPlay, a premium sound system, heated seats, and more. The X1 has a two-row cabin with SensaTec upholstery. The X3 also has a two-row cabin with leather material. The X5 is available with three rows and leather seating. The X3 and the X5 add a navigation system, a power sunroof, voice recognition, a premium Harman Kardon sound system, and several other features.
