Serving Chattanooga, TN
Which BMW sedan will you drive home in? The 3 Series is a compact executive sedan with 45 years of history and evolution under its belt. The 5 Series is an executive sedan that sits directly above the 3 Series, and it also has a long history that spans across many decades. Both of these lovely models are in their seventh generation today, and a detailed comparison is in order before you finalize your purchase plans.
Performance
Under the hood of the 2020 BMW 3 Series, you will discover a TwinPower Turbo I-4, 2.0-liter gas engine that gives off 255 horsepower. It is paired with an eight-speed sport auto transmission that features paddle shifters, manual shift modes, and Launch Control. On the other hand, the 5 Series for 2020 is available with multiple powertrains in various trims. The entry-level trim carries a comparable powertrain, as you will find in the 3 Series. The top-of-the-line BMW 5 Series is outfitted with a BMW M Performance 4.4-liter, TwinPower Turbo V8 engine that gives you 523 horsepower. It has the same transmission design and comparable mechanical features.
Appearance
The 3 Series and 5 Series have some shared traits throughout the exterior. For example, they have a two-piece, bar-style grille with a chrome surround. Their grilles are both integrated with scooped LED lights that are decadently angled up and to the rear. On the 2020 BMW 3 Series, the headlights have two scoops. The lower-front fascia is comprised of an aggressive, black feature that touches the bottom of the bumper. Arrow-like side vents flank this. The sides of the 3 Series sedan are gently sculpted. In comparison, the headlights on the 5 Series have three scooped elements. The lower front fascia has a unique design with metallic accent pieces. The sides have an aggressive lower air vent near the front wheels. They are also sharply defined with two horizontal character lines.
Features
Many of the features in the 3 Series and 5 Series are uniform. These include a Hi-Fi sound system, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, a Connected Care Package, ambient lighting, a sunroof, and more. You will be able to compare the specific features found across each model’s trim line when you stop by the dealership soon.
