Luxury SUVs like the BMW X7 and Acura MDX help you get your family around in style. They're roomy, comfortable, and loaded with features that'll keep your family safe. So, which one is right for you?

To help families in Chattanooga, Hixson, and Cleveland, TN, decide, BMW of Chattanooga looked at what they have to offer in this BMW X7 vs. Acura MDX comparison.

BMW X7 vs Acura MDX: Interior

With seating for seven and high-end upholstery in all three rows, the 2021 BMW X7 is proof that family-friendly SUVs can offer both comfort and luxury. Whether you're in control of its leather-wrapped steering wheel or relaxing in the back, you'll be able to enjoy the ride.

Some of the premium amenities you'll find include:

  • 16-way power-adjustable front seats with 4-way lumbar support
  • Heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats
  • Color changing Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof
  • Automatic 4-zone climate control
  • Heated and cooled cupholders

The Acura MDX offers its fair share of amenities, but they can't elevate your drive the way the BMW can. For example, it comes with power-adjustable front seats, but they don't offer you as many ways to get comfortable. While heated and ventilated front seats are also available, they don't offer any massaging features. There are also no heated and cooled cupholders, no color-changing moonroof, and it only features 3-zone climate control.

In addition to offering more features, the BMW X7 also gives you a little more space. With 41.9 inches of headroom, there's plenty of room for tall drivers. Passengers in the third row will also be able to stretch out, with 33.3 inches of legroom.

The Acura's cabin is a little more cramped, both up front and in back. It only gives the driver 38.1 inches of headroom and makes passengers squeeze into the third row with just 28.1 inches of legroom.

BMW X7 vs Acura MDX: Safety

Any SUV that offers room for the whole family should be able to keep your family safe. On top of keeping you in control with standard all-wheel drive, the BMW X7 does that with smart safety features that can help prevent accidents. Some of the driver assistance features that come standard include:

  • Frontal Collision Warning
  • Active Blind Spot Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Fatigue and Focus Alert

The first three features give you more awareness while you're on the road, while the Fatigue and Focus Alert monitors how you're driving. It uses your driving patterns to look for signs of distracted driving, then reminds you keep your eyes on the road.

The Acura MDX comes with several of the same driver assistance features, but it doesn't offer anything that can remind you pay attention. Plus, it doesn't come with standard all-wheel drive.

BMW X7 vs Acura MDX: Performance

So, what can these safe, spacious, and stylish SUVs do on the open road? Well, the 2021 BMW X7 offers enough power and stability to get you through tough driving conditions. Every trim comes with xDrive Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. The Acura MDX offers all-wheel drive, but front-wheel drive comes standard.

The BMW also offers an exciting drive. Its 3.0L V6 base engine gets up to 335 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque, while the available 4.4L V8 can deliver up to 612 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Acura MDX doesn't give you as many options or as much power. Its 3.5L V6 can only get up to 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.
