2017 BMW 5 Series Raises the Bar on Already Popular Model

The BMW 5 Series has accomplished a feat not many nameplates can. It defines the look, feel, and standard of what many luxury drivers expect an executive sedan to be, and continues to hold that banner high after decades on the market. Now, an all-new model has debuted, and it’s time to see if the trend will continue.

Drawing inspiration from the recently redesigned 3 Series and 7 Series, the 2017 5 Series is quite stately to behold. The front end—complete with active grille shutters—and forward air intakes harkens to the brand’s flagship, while a lot of 3 Series can be found in the character lines and rear deck. All-new TwinPower Turbo engines are also in play here. While no horsepower numbers are available, a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is standard on the 530i, while a 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder is the rule of the road with the 540i.
