BMW debuted the X5's fourth generation in 2019 and has progressively refined it with mid-generation updates since that time. Between the 2025 and 2026 model years, however, the BMW X5 is unchanged. You can choose from four trim levels and several optional packages. What can you expect from this luxury midsize SUV?

Performance

The entry-level trim for the X5 is the sDrive40i. It is equipped with a turbo 3.0-liter, mild-hybrid six-cylinder engine. This is a 375-horsepower system that features front-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The xDrive40i is loaded with the same engine, and it stands apart with all-wheel drive. If you choose the xDrive50e, your SUV will have a plug-in hybrid, turbo six-cylinder engine that produces 483 horsepower. Its all-electric range is 39 miles. The top trim level is the M60i. It comes with a turbo, sport-tuned 4.4-liter V8 unit. This system delivers 523 horsepower and features all-wheel drive.

Appearance

The captivating, sophisticated design of the 2025 X5 carries up to the 2026 model year without change. It shows off a tall, slightly rounded roof with a swooping hood. The compact, kidney-style grille has columns and a chrome surround. The squared-off bumper is styled with a chrome bar. Flanking the grille, the LED headlights taper into a point. The X5 has a sporty side as well with deep contouring, a chrome air vent, and a chrome accent bar. Select X5 trim levels for 2025 and 2026 are available with red or blue calipers, cornering lights, run-flat tires, and up to 22-inch wheels.

Features

The same safety and cabin features available in the 2025 X5 are offered in 2026 on a trim-by-trim basis. Some of these are automated parking assistance, lane centering, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a rear cross-traffic alert, a lane departure warning, a 14.9-inch infotainment system screen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen, customizable LED cabin lights, a wireless device charger, a wireless hotspot, parking sensors, a navigation system, soft-close doors, adaptive cruise control, heated seats and armrests, a panoramic sunroof with embedded LED lights, glass center console controls, a head-up display, leather upholstery and remote engine start.
