Learn How BMW Hopes to Change the Electric Mass Transit Industry

BMW i Ventures recently announced a new concept with the leading innovator and manufacturer of durable electric mass transportation automobiles. BMW's new partner, Proterra, aims to eradicate the world's dependency on fossil fuels and sharply lessen operating costs for transit companies across North America.

“This is an extremely exciting time at Proterra as our customers, supporters, and investors—new and old alike—rally behind our vision for a clean, electric transportation ecosystem,” said CEO of Proterra, Ryan Popple. “We’re incredibly grateful to our new investors, and are proud to call them partners as we strive to eliminate fossil fuel dependence throughout the transit industry.”

BMW hopes electric mass transit will eventually overtake fossil-fuel buses and become the new standard.

There is hardly a better company to partner with for this type of push. Proterra has a 60-percent market share in the North American electric mass transit market. The company has also done business all over the U.S. Proterra has sold more than 400 cars to North American cities including Philadelphia, Seattle, Foothill in the Great Los Angeles area, Nashville, Dallas, Reno and San Jose.
