BMW of Chattanooga's Pumpkin Carving Contest

The month of October was rainy and somewhat dreary in Chattanooga, TN, but the atmosphere was bright and cheery at BMW of Chattanooga as teams battled it out in the dealership's pumpkin carving contest.  The four teams named 'The Ghouls', ' The Goblins', 'The Gremlins' and 'The Skeletons' were made up of the Accounting, Detail, Service, Sales, Finance, Parts and Warranty departments combined respectively.

Team members carved pumpkins which were all displayed in the service drive area through the last day of October.  Each team chose a pumpkin they wanted to represent their team; the only stipulation to the contest was that "BMW' be carved or be somewhere on the pumpkin's display.

The pumpkins were judged by a panel of undisclosed judges and the prize for the winning department was a lunch catered in from the restaurant of their choice.

'The Ghouls' team made up of the Accounting, Reception and Detail departments was the overall winner.  Thomas Butler carved the winning pumpkin, a delightful, meticulously carved pumpkin wearing a Texas styled cowboy hat.

BMW of Chattanooga's Dealer Operator, Robert C. Wilson, was extremely pleased with the hard work and commitment that this team building and fun activity brought to the employees. He added, " We are more than a business here at BMW of Chattanooga, we consider ourselves a family."

BMW of Chattanooga would like to congratulate Mr. Justin Shackleford, Mr. Jay Smyth, Mr. Eric Chartier, Mr. Brandon Boydston, and Mr. Stan Gilbert at this time; your dedication to exceed customers' expectations has been recognized. CELEBRATES ANOTHER                                    SUCCESSFUL PARTY    January 2008

Patrons and Sponsors Enjoy Exclusive Pre-Party

A preview of the fun and spirit of Pink! 2008 was hosted at BMW of Chattanooga, the party sponsor. Welcomed with valet parking, guests were surrounded by Pink! lights, music, flowers, balloons and ribbons. Wonderful food catered by Sodexho included a carving station, an iced seafood bar, tables of sweets, assorted canapes, fresh fruit and imported cheeses.

"This was Sodexho's first special event representing Memorial Hospital, and we wanted it to be memorable," says Lester Poe, Sodexho director of Nutrition Services at Memorial. "One special touch people enjoyed was the foggy effect of mixing icy drinks in 60-pound dry ice bowls."

Pre-Party Chair Karlette Baker has been involved with Pink! since the beginning. "I adored MaryEllen and want to do anything to continue her cause and celebrate her life," Karlette says. "The party is to thank and show deep appreciation to our cherished sponsors and patrons. They are the reason Pink! has been so unbelievably successful. We also wanted to create an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation just before the big event."

A focal point at the party, BMW's Ultimate Drive Signature Vehicle tells the story of BMW's national commitment to fighting breast cancer with the Susan G. Komen Drive for the Cure. "Memorial's Pink! is the perfect event to show our commitment locally to this cause," says BMW of Chattanooga Dealer Operator Robert Wilson. "The pink ribbon ties us all together in the drive to find a cure."

Guests at the Pre-Party had a special opportunity to win an Ultimate BMW Bed and Breakfast Drive-Away that included a BMW to drive to Snowbird Mountain Lodge in Robbinsville, NC for a luxurious weekend. Gail Lewis was the lucky winner.

Paula Yarbrough, Dealer Operator Robert Wilson, Certified Pre-Owned Manager Gary Ridge and Lynn Brock enjoyed the Pink! Pre-Party hosted by BMW.

"The generosity of our community truly inspires all of us at Memorial," says Deb Moore, interim CEO of Memorial. Pictured are Diggie and Deb Moore; David Burd, honorary chair; and Virginia Anne and Hugh Sharber, co-chairs of Pink!

Women and Cancer Event

Tennessee/Alabama tickets. A trip to the Country Music Awards. A guitar autographed by Sheryl Crow. A BMW Z4 Convertible. All items donated for auction to support Chattanooga's first Women and Cancer Event Luncheon supporting The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation is a public charity committed to benefiting cancer patients and their families by supporting new programs in cancer research, education, and patient and family services. Parkridge Medical Center's Sarah Cannon Cancer Center is a Commission on Cancer-approved and commended facility that bears the name of the comedienne who created the character of Minnie Pearl, and who was herself a breast cancer survivor.

"Everyone enjoyed themselves, and the event was a great success," noted program coordinator Laura Robinson. WRCB reporter Jed Mescon kicked things off as master of ceremonies for the silent auction and luncheon. Before lunch was served, Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield delivered a warm welcome and introduced the program. Everyone enjoyed a leisurely meal as the silent auction bidders entered final offers on silent auction items donated by well over 100 local organizations, businesses and individuals in support of the cause. The event was informational as well; guest speaker Barbara Haskew, PHD, a distinguished professor of economics at Middle Tennessee State University and breast cancer survivor, took the stage to tell the story of her own cancer battle and share her unique way of keeping hope alive. Dr. Stephen DePasquale, a gynecologic oncologist from Chattanooga's Program in Women's Oncology, informed attendees about innovations in women's cancer care. The auction and luncheon raised $25,000 for the assistance of cancer patients in the Chattanooga area. Click here to Get Involved!

Miss the event this year? Save the date and join the fun on April 22, 2009!

City's 2007 Waterfront Triathlon

With thousands watching, more than 1,200 triathletes competed in the rugged July 15th competition along the Chattanooga waterfront. It was the third year for the world-class event - used as a qualifier for national and world competition - and the first for Sonic Automotive's BMW of Chattanooga (TN) as title sponsor. Among the most spectator-friendly triathlons in the country, the event involved more than 300 volunteers and officials - from an area track club, cycling clubs and canoe enthusiasts to support from law enforcement agencies. Described by one of its organizers as "good for the city," the triathlon also provided great exposure for BMW of Chattanooga with generous signage and news reports from a variety of outlets covering the event.

BMW of Chattanooga Sponsors Safe                 Nov 2007
Driving Program For Area Teenagers
With motor vehicle accidents rising to become the leading cause of death for 16 to 19 year olds in the country, positive steps are called for. That's why BMW of Chattanooga signed on as a sponsor of the Tire Rack Street SurvivalR safe driving program for young drivers held at the Sheriff's Department annex. In December, BMW of Chattanooga joined with law enforcement and other agencies to sponsor a hands-on driving course for licensed drivers ages 16 to 21. The national nonprofit education program included classroom instruction and car driving exercises behind the wheel. The daylong event was open to young drivers of BMWs and other model vehicles. Safety and car control - not high speeds - is the goal of the course. Participants pay a $60 registration fee for entry into a class limited to 30 drivers. An increasing number of auto insurers recognize this program's value and grant discounts on policy premiums to those who complete it.

BMW of Chattanooga Introduces Green Initiative

BMW of Chattanooga has introduced a Green Initiative to help reduce the negative impact of excess waste on the environment. Through partnerships with both Rock Tin Recycling and the FundingFactory Recycling Program, we are raising money for local schools by going green!

We have cut our waste diposal bill in half! Employees are collecting cardboard and all paper products, used inkjet and laser printer cartridges and cell phones every month. Our customers can take advantage of recycle bins all over the facility everyday. "I think this sends a healthy message to our customers; we care about our community. The process has proved to be very rewarding!" Program Lead at BMW of Chattanooga, Leslie Williams

Community Involvement A Priority                  Nov 2007
For Staff At BMW of Chattanooga

Whether the cause is safety training for young drivers or a Christmas party for military families, the staff at the BMW of Chattanooga dealership have been quick to help. Robert Wilson, Dealer Operator of BMW of Chattanooga, provided the local American Red Cross with a check after the Chattanooga chapter launched a campaign to collect hundreds of gifts and thousands of dollars in late fall. The money and gifts supported a holiday party that welcomed more than 330 children from families of Tennessee National Guardsmen (181st Field Artillery Battalion) who had been deployed to Iraq. Proposed around Thanksgiving, the holiday effort for the military families came together quickly. A Red Cross spokesman described the Christmas party as a tremendous way to show the families how much the community cares about them.

Chattanooga Grand Opening                                 March 2007
Draws Huge Turnout

Capping off nearly a year of anticipation, BMW of Chattanooga played host to nearly 1,500 guests, family, friends and associates at the March 15th grand opening of its sparkling new facility. Groundbreaking on the advanced dealership complex, new home to 55 associates, began in March 2006. Staff started moving into the new quarters last November.
The grand opening was meticulously planned and flawlessly executed. More than 90 percent of the 1,492 invited guests attended. In the spacious showroom, a harpist performed for guests, while in the shop area, a band pounded out popular tunes. All guests were treated to valet parking by 34 attendants and enjoyed delicious food served at eight available food stations and five beverage sites and coordinated by local chef,  Michelle Huffman-Wells at Events with Taste Catering. Traffic to and from the event moved smoothly, thanks to the hard work of four officers.

Encompassing 9.5 paved acres, the new dealership site features 2,100 feet of interstate 75 frontage. Its showroom includes 40,000 square feet of heated and air-conditioned space, and a building for detailing and car washes. Computers were the only equipment to make the move from the old facility to the new.

In addition to a two-story parts department, the complex includes a new shop with 24 service bays, three programming bays, two tire and alignment bays and two pre-delivery-inspection bays. The shop and parts area  were highlighted by vendors at 2007 NADA.

The event's success prompted congratulatory notes to Dealer Partner Doug DeLoach and many of the executives from Sonic Automotive. David Smith, Senior VP of Corporate Development with Sonic Automotive, said, "Everyone was blown away by this great event. Doug DeLoach and all others involved have definitely set a new standard for dealership parties, events and promotions!"
